ACVS Foundation
Honored Mentor

Ronald M. McLaughlin, Jr.

DVM, DVSc, DACVS

I’ve had the good fortune of working with many wonderful residents over the years. All were good people of sound character who worked hard and had a strong desire to excel. I am convinced that I learned more from them than they did from me; I know I am a better person for having known them. I am very proud of their many accomplishments and humbled to have played a small part in their growth as surgeons and colleagues. It is truly an honor to be recognized as their mentor.

- Ronald M. McLaughlin, Jr., DVM, DVSc, DACVS

Ron guided me in my career with both loyalty and honesty. When a frustrating situation happened, he knew how to encourage me through it, to come out on top. I always knew when I got pulled aside for a “talk,” I was going to be better off with his perspective and knowledge. He mentored me in work and life, even helping me choose my husband and brought me to tears with his wedding toast.

- Jennifer L. Wardlaw, DVM, MS, DACVS (Small Animal)

Dr. McLaughlin is currently the Associate Dean for Administration and Professor of Surgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University. He has received the Dean’s Pegasus Award for Research / Creative Activity and the Carl J. Norden Distinguished Teacher Award. He is a proud Diplomate of ACVS, which is very important to him both professionally and personally. Through serving on committees and working with staff on projects, he has been impressed with how dedicated everyone is to seeing ACVS succeed and how hard they work to benefit the members.
