We feel honored to have had Matt Barnhart as a mentor and role model as a resident. He imparted years of experience, provided the opportunity to tackle challenging cases, guided us through success and failure, and allowed us residents to emerge as confident surgeons capable of being great contributors to the veterinary surgical community. For this we are all grateful and strive to pass these same teachings on to others.

I am truly blessed to be involved with the teaching of so many incredibly intelligent, driven and compassionate young surgery residents. As much as they claim that I have taught them, they have provided as many or more valuable lessons for me. Their energy and enthusiasm for our profession is contagious and continues to keep me on my toes. They have kept me humble and ever aware that none of us “have seen it all”. I am grateful.
