The Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) is seeking veterinarians to help in the revision of the Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE), the fourth and final step of the ECFVG program. This essential project will allow the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to provide a pathway for graduates of non-AVMA COE–accredited foreign veterinary schools to become eligible for licensure or work in the United States or Canada.
Who: Veterinarians from all facets of the profession and all career stages to be subject matter experts (SMEs) for the CPE development process. (ECFVG candidates or recent certificants (within 5 years) are not eligible for consideration.)
What: Participation in one (or more) 2–3-day test development workshops at the AVMA Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois. SMEs will work as a group to identify knowledge and skills expected of a graduate of an AVMA COE-accredited College of Veterinary Medicine across small animal, equine, and food animal practice. They will then, as time allows, develop initial drafts of test content (questions, prompts, etc.).
When: Dates for workshops will be identified over the next 12 months with the first expected to occur mid– to late summer 2025.
How: All travel expenses will be paid, and volunteer will earn a stipend ($500 per day) and CE credit (up to four hours per day) while working with colleagues to serve the veterinary profession by sharing knowledge and developing essential and cutting-edge test content.
All veterinarians, from recent graduates to seasoned specialists, are encouraged to contact AVMA for further information at ECFVGSMEs@avma.org.
