Veterinary Surgery seeks an associate editor (neurologic veterinary surgery)

Veterinary Surgery seeks a part-time associate editor with an emphasis in neurologic veterinary surgery. The position has a three-year, renewable term, starting November 1, 2025. Apply by submitting a short statement of interest and relevant experience to ACVS Programs Coordinator Tracey Delaney (tdelaney@acvs.org) by September 15, 2025.

Associate editors oversee the scientific review process, including assigning reviewers, synthesizing reviewers’ comments, serving as a moderator between reviewers and authors, and making recommendations to the editor-in-chief on the suitability of submissions for publication. For this position, the associate editor will be responsible for the management of submissions relevant to neurologic veterinary surgery and is expected to handle 30-50 reviews per year (for approximately 15 original submissions), with an estimated commitment of 2-4 hours per manuscript. Participation in the annual virtual editors’ meeting is required. Associate editors receive an annual stipend.

Requirements:

  • Must be either a Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Small Animal), or a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, Small Animal Surgery
  • Must be familiar with the current scientific literature in veterinary and comparative neurologic surgery
  • Must be fluent in scientific English, substantiated by a strong publication track record, preferably in Veterinary Surgery
  • Must be committed and able to attend to the needs of the journal in a timely fashion

Preference will be given to Diplomates of at least five years standing and have previously served on the Veterinary Surgery Editorial Review Board or have other peer-review or editorial experience.
