ACVS Board of Regents decision regarding Surgery Summit
August 26, 2021
Diplomates and residents:
I am reaching out to inform you of a decision regarding the 2021 ACVS Surgery Summit.
After very thoughtful consideration, the ACVS Board of Regents yesterday voted to cancel the in-person 2021 Summit. This decision was not made lightly. We are keenly aware that you rely on ACVS for your continuing education. The Board took into account the valuable input and deliberate thought of the Continuing Education Committee, information provided by the hotel, current local Chicago protocols, as well as the current CDC recommendations for large gatherings.
The primary reason for the decision is that the Board is not comfortable with the level of safety ACVS can provide attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and staff at the Summit given the status of COVID and the widespread increasing infection rates of the Delta variant.
Like you, the Board is disappointed. To address your continuing education needs, the Continuing Education Committee and ACVS staff will transition quickly to building an alternative experience. The ACVS staff is researching the possibility of moving a portion of the Summit program to a virtual format that may occur during the same days as the Summit.
While we do not have details at this time, we are committed to communicating with you as soon as possible through email, Cut to the Point, and the Surgery Summit site, www.acvssurgerysummit.org.
Please continue to pursue the live ACVS webinars that are available through the remainder of the year and the robust on-demand learning that is available at www.acvs.org/digitalce.
We appreciate and value your understanding and support.
