Nat White Concludes Service as Continuing Education Director
November 11, 2019
ACVS bids farewell to Nathaniel A. White II, DVM, MS, DACVS, who concluded his tenure as ACVS Director of Continuing Education with the 2019 Surgery Summit. His stewardship of the College’s continuing education program as Director for more than 20 years has demonstrated his unyielding commitment to ACVS. Dr. White became involved with ACVS meetings in the early 1980s, serving as speaker and seminar chair, as well as a member and chair of both the Forum Committee and Scientific Meeting Committee. Following the merger of the ACVS Forum and the Annual Scientific Meeting into the annual Veterinary Symposium, Nat became Director in 1997.
During Dr. White’s term as Director, the number of attendees has grown from 1,200 to nearly 2,000 in 2019, which is a new attendance record for ACVS. In 2015, the Veterinary Symposium was rebranded as the ACVS Surgery Summit, and Dr. White became Director of Continuing Education.
Dr. White has seen ACVS meetings through a wide variety of experiences, including: the impact of external forces such as the 9/11 attacks, Superstorm Sandy, and sharing space with ComicCon to restructuring the committee to meet increasingly diverse CE demands, offering CE beyond the Summit, and embracing new technology and the world of social media.
For the past two years, Dr. White has partnered with Dr. Louise Southwood, Assistant Director of Continuing Education, to transition leadership of the continuing education agenda. Dr. Southwood has assumed the role of Director of Continuing Education and is forging ahead for 2020 ACVS Surgery Summit in Washington, DC, October 22-24.
