Susan L. Fubini

Dr. Fubini attended the University of Georgia with the intention of becoming an equine ambulatory veterinarian. However, during her internship at Cornell, she realized how much she relished identifying a problem and addressing it straight away with surgery, so she decided to become a surgeon instead. She lives in Ithaca, NY with her husband (small animal orthopedist), 4 kids (who now come and go), and 3 or 4 dogs at a time.

DVM, DACVS

It’s hard to express what this award means to me. It is such an honor to be recognized by those I've trained. But the truth is, and I am sure you will agree, I have learned more from them then they glean from me. They are compassionate caring surgeons in-the-making, intelligent, innovative, but also careful, every step pains-taking.

So thank you to “my” residents for all you have taught me every year. I am so lucky to have worked with you and I hold your friendship dear.

Susan L. Fubini, DVM, DACVS

Dr. Fubini set the gold standard for patient care. That sounds like a simple statement but it includes a complex assortment of dynamic interactions with clients, clinical cases, students, staff, literature awareness, past experiences,  etc. at all times of the day and night, regardless of how much time has passed working without a break. She never never cut any corners. She always gave her best and inspired all working with her to do the same. She was everyone’s big sister taking care of many interns and residents from many programs. She is a best friend.

Peter C. Rakestraw, VMD, MA, DACVS
