Dr. Birchard was very influential in my development as a surgeon during residency training at the Ohio State University. I learned a lot from Steve, who is a very experienced clinician, skilled surgeon, and good communicator. I also remember him being encouraging and extremely patient with me; the latter being a quality I needed in abundance. Steve was a solid mentor and I am extremely grateful for the instrumental part that he played in my training.
