A mentor must believe in and successfully demonstrate an underlying philosophy. Mine is to guide the mentee into becoming ‘a thinking’ surgeon not a ‘robot’ surgeon. A robot surgeon epitomizes see one, do one, teach one. To teach and encourage thinking, one will become a successful surgeon no matter the circumstance.
