Impact of Research Grant Programs

Since 1995, the ACVS Foundation has provided 91 research grants to ACVS residents and Diplomates totaling $855,000.

  • $570,000 has been awarded to ACVS residents as Surgeon-in-Training grants.
  • $169,000 has been provided for Diplomate clinical research programs.
  • $116,000 has supported research to identify and explore novel veterinary applications of minimally invasive surgical techniques.

In total, there have been 61 scientific peer-reviewed publications reporting results of research fully or partially funded by the ACVS Foundation Grant Programs from 1995-2011.

  • 54% were focused on equine
  • 39% on small animals
  • 7% were not specific to either group.
  • 51% of the publications involved orthopedic research, 46% soft tissue research, and 3% reported on topics relevant to both.

The majority of the research studies were reported in the Veterinary Surgery journal. Research studies supported by ACVS Foundation grants were also published in:
