Diplomates are encouraged to consider two leadership opportunities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In February, ACVS will call for\u00a0nominations\u00a0for president-elect and regents and call for applications for Certification Council\u00a0(council)\u00a0positions.\u00a0Appointment to the\u00a0council is contingent upon ACVS membership\u00a0approval\u00a0in the coming months\u00a0of the proposed\u00a0bylaws\u00a0that would establish the council.\u00a0ACVS will begin the application process\u00a0before\u00a0the membership vote to allow prospective council members to plan to attend the 2026 Surgery Summit in Charlotte, NC.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ACVS Board of Regents\u00a0Nominations<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ACVS Nominating Committee\u00a0will assemble\u00a0a pool of candidates for this year\u2019s election of president-elect\u00a0(large animal)\u00a0and regents (one large animal and one small animal), representative of ACVS\u2019s changing membership. The Nominating Committee reviews nominations, either from a fellow Diplomate or self-nomination, and\u00a0submits\u00a0recommendations\u00a0to the\u00a0Board of Regents (BOR)\u00a0to\u00a0determine\u00a0the\u00a0final\u00a0slate of candidates\u00a0for a\u00a0membership\u00a0vote.\u00a0Incoming\u00a0BOR\u00a0members will be required to attend the October 6\u20137 in-person board meeting prior to the start of the Surgery Summit in Charlotte.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If the membership approves the proposed bylaws,\u00a0as of January 1, 2027, the\u00a0BOR\u2019s\u00a0primary focus will be providing strategic guidance and high-level oversight of membership services and activities and the operation of the College.\u00a0The shift in responsibilities\u00a0will\u00a0create\u00a0opportunities for\u00a0Diplomates to bring a wider variety of experiences to the\u00a0BOR. All nominees will\u00a0be required\u00a0to complete a Nominee Application that will ask for\u00a0additional\u00a0information on any current or past\u00a0leadership\u00a0and\/or volunteer\u00a0experience\u00a0with\u00a0organizations\u202fother than ACVS<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>that will be helpful in the candidate review process\u00a0and meeting BOR responsibilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The call for\u00a0nominations\u00a0will open in late February.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications for\u00a0the\u00a0ACVS Certification Council<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0BOR\u00a0will call for volunteers to serve on the inaugural\u00a0council.\u00a0The council will oversee all aspects of the certification process, including the related committees.\u00a0Experience on\u00a0the Examination,\u00a0Fellowship,\u00a0Maintenance of Certification, Residency Program Compliance,\u00a0or\u00a0Resident Credentialing\u00a0<\/span>Committees<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0required.\u00a0Diplomates\u00a0who have\u00a0previously served on one of these\u00a0certification committees or the BOR\u00a0within the past ten years\u00a0are encouraged to apply for member and officer positions.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Incoming council members should plan to attend\u00a0the Surgery\u00a0Summit in Charlotte for an onboarding meeting. Terms for inaugural council members will be staggered for two, three, or four years and will begin on January 1, 2027.\u00a0Council members are expected to attend meetings throughout the year: one in-person meeting, two half-day virtual meetings, and four shorter virtual meetings. ACVS will reimburse council members\u00a0in accordance with\u00a0ACVS\u2019s expense reimbursement policies for travel to in-person meetings.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
