How to Apply

Residencies can be located at universities and colleges of veterinary medicine or a private practice where an ACVS Diplomates is available to serve as the Program Director. The same program requirements apply regardless of the location of the residency.

Application for a residency position at a college of veterinary medicine is made through a matching program. The Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program is run by the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians. The AAVC conceived a Veterinary Internship/Residency Matching Program Directory as a means of disseminating internship and residency information to the profession to stimulate the interest of senior students and recent graduates in these programs. The directory is published annually on September 15. Applicants must purchase or access a current directory to determine the availability of positions and the forms needed to apply to the program.

Contact AAVC for matching program information:

Most residency programs located at private practices are not part of the Matching Program. Upon request, the ACVS office can provide a list of current programs.  E-mail residency@acvs.org with your request. Potential residents must contact the ACVS Diplomates at these practices. Program requirements do not change for residents at such practices. Residents must follow the requirements outlined in the ACVS Residency Program Requirementsin effect on the day the residency begins.
