Associate Equine Surgeon
Ocala Equine Hospital - Ocala, FL

Ocala Equine Hospital, a well-equipped, busy equine practice in Central Florida, is looking to hire a second surgeon. Our caseload is primarily Thoroughbred racehorse, however, there is a large sport horse population in Marion County as well. Essential requirements for the job are ACVS board certification, competency in arthroscopic surgery, and the desire and ability to handle a busy elective surgical and lameness caseload. We also endeavor to support the development of any special interests within the confines of a private practice environment. Employment leading to eventual partnership is desirable.

Ocala Equine Hospital is situated on 20 acres in the heart of Thoroughbred country in sunny Ocala, Florida. The hospital has two fully equipped surgical suites with high definition arthroscopy equipment. The hospital also has a swimming pool recovery system. Available equipment includes digital radiography, digital ultrasonography, scintigraphy, shock wave therapy, diode laser, videoendoscopy, dynamic videoendoscopy, etc. The hospital also has a full service in-house laboratory.

The caseload is essentially “elective only” however, we do accept orthopedic emergencies. The caseload currently is about 1,000 elective surgeries per year with a breakdown by case type being approximately 70% orthopedics, 20% upper airway, and 10% general surgery. The hospital stocks an extensive selection of implants including a full complement of DCP, DCS, and locking plates.

If the caseload and location appeal to you or if you know someone who would be qualified please contact us.

Application packets (CV, letter of intent, and three references) should be mailed to: Ocala Equine Hospital, 10855 NW US Hwy 27, Ocala, FL 34482, or emailed to our office manager Vicki Ferguson at vickifoeh@gmail.com. Please don’t hesitate to contact John Madison at oehosp@aol.com if you have any questions.
