“SurgerySTAT”… an ACVS monthly column in DVM Newsmagazine
"SurgerySTAT" is a monthly column written by ACVS Diplomates for DVM Newsmagazine. This collaborative initiative offers helpful tips and insightful information for general practitioners in veterinary medicine that perform surgical procedures.
“ACVS Diplomates understand the importance of working closely with general practitioners to help them manage their patients and educate the owners,” states ACVS Board of Regents Chair Michael M. Pavletic, DVM. “It is critical that ACVS Diplomates form an interdependent partnership with their professional colleagues and animal owners to provide the best possible care to the animal. This shared goal requires everyone to work together and to be able to rely on the members of the team to get their respective jobs done. Personal and timely communication between veterinary colleagues is critical to this mission. There are a variety of ways to communicate today, but “picking up the telephone” often remains as the most personal way for veterinarians to communicate clearly, and foster those professional bonds of friendship, mutual trust and respect.
“Over the past few years, ACVS has developed a special section on the web site (www.acvs.org/AnimalOwners/HealthConditions/) dedicated to educating animal owners about common health conditions affecting animals. A well-informed owner is better able to understand the health issues and treatment options available to provide the best care to their pet.”
ACVS Diplomates are invited to review the guidelines for submitting a column and submit ideas for articles.
