Impact of ACVS Foundation Research Grant Program
Since 1995, the ACVS Foundation has provided 78 research grants to ACVS residents and Diplomates totaling $750,000. The majority of the support, $485,844, was awarded to ACVS residents as Surgeon-in-Training grants, and just over $148,000 provided support for Diplomate clinical research programs. An additional $115,973 supported research to identify and explore novel veterinary applications of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
In total, there have been 61 scientific peer-reviewed publications reporting results of research fully or partially funded by the ACVS Foundation Grant Program from 1995-2011. Of the 61 publications, 54% were focused on equine, 39% on small animals and 7% were not specific to either group. Fifty-one percent of the publications were involved orthopedic research, 46% soft tissue research and 3% reported on topics relevant to both.
